History

People have built snowboard like sleds forever but in 1965, Sherman Poppen created the Snurfer. He licensed his new idea and sold over half a million. Poppins organized competitions for snurfer. Jake Burton competited in these competitions using the Snurfer. Later he started making his own boards that featured the first binding. He was the only person riding his own boards in the Snurfer competitions and won a lot of them. This binding gave him much more control over the board. Jake Burton was the first person to feature actual technology in his snowboards. He used a P-tex base, which allowed them to slide across the snow faster. Burton is still one of the most innovative snowboard companies to this day.
